Spiritual Care Work
“Spiritual care work” is an umbrella term that describes the emotional, creative, energetic, intellectual, administrative and mechanical labor required to attend to the spiritual wellbeing of a client. Spiritual care work is a category of labor that is highly contextual, culturally specific, and varies greatly across practices and practitioners.
I believe in respecting the labor of all care workers by advocating for sustainable wages. To engender clarity between myself and all of my clients, below is a description of the benchmarks that determine the monetary value of my services.
Time
While your recording may only last for an average of 30-40 minutes, you should know that there are several hours/days worth of love and labor incorporated into your reading. Both the Full Tarot Consultation and the Shadow Integration readings typically take anywhere from 8 to12 hours to complete in its entirety from start to finish. This includes the time it takes to record, edit/polish, and deliver your reading as a voice message. I’m also a diviner who prioritizes depth. As a part of the reading, I frequently conduct research and pull from my art practice to gathering information and inspiration from multiple sources. It’s not unusual for me to spend several days sitting with your spread and the energy of your spirit to allow for the fullness of each message to come through.
Spiritual and Emotional Labor
Synthesizing esoteric symbols, pictographs and ancestral whisperings into cohesive and emotionally holding spiritual guidance takes a great deal of energy, attention, care, and creativity. Holding space, witnessing, and deep listening are all forms of spiritual and emotional labor. It’s important that we name it as such.
In a world that perpetually devalues and simultaneously capitalizes on the emotional and spiritual labor of women and femmes of color, naming this work as skilled labor and charging a sustainable rate is an act of resistance that directly challenges that form of systemic violence. I’m interested in working with clients who treat my services with a similar ethos.
